Minor edgewear. Tipped to the front pastedown is a "University of Glasgow. / Class of Logic and Rhetoric. / Special Prize" bookplate bearing a signature and two-line inscription from Veitch. (Near the middle of this plate the original recipient's name, presumably in Veitch's hand, has been coarsely erased.) First edition, tight and attractive. Hamilton (NOT the Sir William Hamilton of Emma Hamilton, archaeologist and diplomat) was a Scottish philosopher (1788-1856), professor of logic and metaphysics at the University of Edinburgh. .
