Description: This Mercury VII astronaut, the third astronaut in space (1961), was killed in a flash fire during the simulation of the Apollo I launching. Color PS, irregular 3½" X 6 3/4", n.p. n.d. [ca. early 1960s]. Good only. Single 1" tape stain near lower left edge; this lower left edge is not cut straight, but rather the lower 2" curve inward, so that the 3½" width dimension cited above measures only 2 3/4" at the bottom edge. Candid matte finish color magazine photograph, a tight closeup of Grissom's face. Just under the chin line, Grissom signs it in blue ballpoint. Contrast is average only. .
