Title: The Fates of War
Description: New York, Carlton Press, 1975. Hardcover. 8vo. Blue cloth, pictorial dust jacket. 186pp. Near fine/very good. Bit of jacket edgewear and rubbing, with a few tiny edge chips. World War Two fiction, inscribed boldly on the front flyleaf "To Alice Pfeil / J.K. Lentz." Opposite the half-title page, a 10-word column of words has been neatly inkstamped -- apparently as a joke -- and Lentz has inked in responses to each of the words! Next to "DATE," he dates it August 23, 1976, next to "PROJ. NO." he writes the year he began writing "The Fates of War" (1970), next to "SPECIMEN NO." he writes his age (54), next to "OBJECTIVE" he writes "Early retirement," next to "EYEPIECE" he writes "Satirical verse," next to "EXTENSION" he writes "Prose narrative," next to "MAG" he adds "nified by dialoge," next to "MATERIAL" he writes "Purely fictional (?)" and next to "ETCHANT" he writes "Vitriol." Strange and bizarre. .
