Author: CHANDLER, Elsie Williams Title: Betwixt and between
Description: South Norwalk, CT, The Gorham Press, 1940. Paperback. 12mo. Stiff green textured wrappers. (11pp). Several illustrations ("Scissors-cuts by EWC," according to title page). Fine. Probable sole edition of this unusual little poetry collection. Williams inscribes the title page to the noted social protest poet and fine press publisher, JOHN BEECHER (1904-80): "For our/my Beechers / with love / from / Elizabeth / and all of us / 6 April 1961." On the rear flyleaf, she writes out a full poem quite handsomely: "Faith / I plant my seed / I know the sun will shine / And the wind bring rain / And little hopes will start / Of joy and beauty / That long have lain / dormant in my heart / And then I know, / Will come a blossom time / Against my heed. / EWC [sketch]." She also corrects one small typo on one poem. Most unusual. .
