Description: Partly-printed DS, 1p, 6½" X 4", n.p. 1782 June 1. Very good. Moderate age toning. Printed pay order, signed in type by treasurer John Lawrence, ordering payment of five shillings to Ralph Pomeroy, here noted as "DQM" (Deputy Quarter Master). Dockets on verso. Pomeroy (1737-1819) was a noted attorney of Hartford as well as city alderman, state comptroller and justice of the peace who aided the American Revolution by acting as a paymaster. Signed boldly in brown ink at lower right by "Committee" members William Moseley and Fenn Wadsworth. Moseley (1755-1824) was a Hartford official and Wadsworth (1750-85) served as a major in the Revolutionary War and participated in many battles, later due to poor health serving the Connecticut Pay Table Committee. .
