Title: State Sovereignty and the Doctrine of Coercion... Together with a Letter from Hon. J.K. Paulding, Former Sec. Of Navy
Description: Charleston, SC, Evans & Cogswell's Steam-Power Presses, 1860. Paperback. 8vo. Wrappers. 36pp. Very good. Mild age toning and bit of edgewear to front wrapper; strip of old archival beige binding tape running along spine. First edition of "Association Tract, No. 2," a pro-slavery, pro-secession speech "To the Men of the South." Rather scarce in this attractive condition. Interesting copy, having the blue "Private Library" plate on inside front wrapper of GEORGE P. HAMBRECHT (noted Lincoln scholar and founder of the Lincoln Fellowship of Wisconsin), which notes that he purchased it in 1922 for five dollars. Tipped above this is the catalogue slip for this copy, which calls it "A very rare Lincoln item." SABIN 64321. .
