Initially intended as an academic manual for university courses on the history of the Turkic languages, Malov's book soon became a standard work on the subject. It examines texts on Turkic monuments from about the 5th to the 15th centuries, preserved on stones, in what Malov termed "Graveyard Poetry". Turkic texts are given in runic, Uyghur or Arabic letters, as well as in transcription into Russian or Latin letters with translation, and are accompanied by remarks of a historical-literary-bibliographic-linguistic nature. At the end of the book, a dictionary is provided to all the words on the monuments. Each section is enlarged with a bibliography. [Provenance:] At the beginning of the book there are scattered small stamps. Previously at the libraries of the State University Utrecht and the Institution for Eastern and Slavic Languages, and finally in the private collection of Leiden University Turkologist, Dr. A. Spaans from whose collection the book currently comes. Extensive annotations on loose leaves of paper, as well as other material related to the subject, loosely inserted. 010-4 .
