In this mammoth work he discusses and explains in extreme detail the theory and practice of recoil operation guns and elaborates on the various systems of recoil operation. Principles, calculations, technique and mechanics are all studied thoroughly. The Atlas comprises of many more than 180 fine and very detailed technical illustrations of guns, cannons, carriages and their parts, accompanied by nomenclatures and extended explanations and measurements. With cross references direct to the corresponding place in the text. The Text volume has many contemporary pencil annotations in neat hand, several manuscript leaves and much contemporary material, tables, etc. laid-in. 005-00 .
