Jean Gaston Maspero (1885-1915). Published posthumously, it was, and in essence still considered as a memorial of one of the most brilliant and most promising of the younger Egyptologists of the time, who fell in action in 1915. It embodies the publication of the results of Maspero's last season of excavation, in Bawit. "This book is an eloquent tribute to the beautifully-kept and detailed note books of Maspero as well as to the skill and patience of Drioton." (H. W.
