Colonel George Armand Furse (1834-1906). After an extended review of British military transport in previous wars Furse discusses transport by carriers and pack animals and transports by rail and by sea. He describes in detail the transport of the sick and wounded, and deals with logistics, the Transport Corps, the care of sick animals, the repair park, etc. as well as with the duties of the transport officers, care of animals, gear and equipment, etc. Five appendices conclude the book with reports on the Abyssinian Expedition and the Afghan War of 1870-90, the pack bullock gear used in India and transport used in the Zulu War.
