Plus 12 plates comprising of a large folding plate with about 30 illustrations and 11 photographic plates, many with multiple images to each, printed on fine paper. Original illustrated stiff wrappers, bit soiled, some calculations made in pencil on back cover, old signature at front, old small military institutional stamp to title-page. In a very good condition. ~ First Dutch edition. Very rare guide on the principles of telemetry, telemeters and other optical instruments for distance measurements. It combines a basic study books for cadets, etc. with a product catalogue of Barr & Stroud. The pioneering Scottish optical engineering firm, formed in 1913 in Glasgow, played a leading role in the development of modern optics, including rangefinders for the Royal Navy and for other branches of British Armed Forces during the 20th century. The guide first appeared in English as "The Principles of Rangefinding together with descriptive notes on the Barr & Stroud Rangefinders and their Principal features. Pamphlet No. 42" and was translated into several languages simultaneously. 005-5 .
