A Swiss maritime theorist, served during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (1780-1784) as a First Lieutenant at the Royal Dutch navy. He later dedicated himself to the study of military theory, became a professor at the Military School in Bern, and wrote extensively on military tactics and startegy.
