As often with pioneer works, Schwing's work did not pass without criticism and debate. A fascinating reading is his article in the "Militaire Spectator" (1929) entitled "Nogmaals: De Handleiding Gasbeschermingsdienst. Een antwoord aan Kapitein der Genie J. H. de Man en den Eerste Luitenant bij de Mil. Gasschool A. H. J. L. Fiévez". 004-5 .
