A wide margined copy, untrimmed, well preserved interior. ~ Rare first edition of this important work on seals, published by the author himself. The preserved original wrapper is dated 1873. A second edition was published eight years later by Édouard Rouveyre (Paris, 1880). Charvet describes here in detail 638 seals from his own collection; the name "Dongé" is believed to be pseudonim.
