Book is in a very fine condition. ~ Belzoni's (1778-1823) account of his explorations in Egypt and Nubia was first published in 1820 ("Narrative of the operations and recent discoveries within the pyramids"). Belzoni, a pioneer Egyptologist, had come to Egypt in 1812 to introduce his newly invented hydraulic machine for irrigation to Mohammed Ali, with whom he found favour. He obtained permission to open the Pyramids of Gizeh and some tombs at Thebes, from where he moved the colossal head of Memnon (Rhamses II) to Cairo in 1816. 007-5 .
