Hardcover, bound by the binder Fock in contemporary quarter morocco and pebbled cloth over boards, spine gilt in compartments between gilt-ruled raised bands, direct gilt lettering, sides blind-ruled, silken endpapers, all edges gilt, cloth ribbon marker. In fine condition. A very handsome copy. ~ Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve (1804-1869) was a literary critic and one of the major figures of French literary history. He was made a member of the Académie française in 1844. The engravings are by G. Staal, after the paintings of Gouttière, Outhwaite, Geoffroy, Girardet, Delannoy, Gervais, and others. B-6 .
