Title: La vieille Garde impériale. Série 11A No. 1142. Illustrations de JOB.
Description: Tours, Mame et Fils, (1929). Hardcover. Quarto. Pp. 318. Plus coloured frontispiece of mounted Napoleon exploring the battlefield via a monocular. Plus 3 other coloured plates, several monochromatic plates, text illustrations, head- and tail-pieces, etc. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's green full cloth, cover richly decorated and lettered in gilt, spine bit faded, corner-tips trifle chafed, occasionally a spot or trace of browning inside. In fine condition. Excellent copy. ~ The seven authors, and JOB, dedicate a chapter to each of the Corps of the Old Imperial Guard: Napoléon a l'armée; Les Colonels généraux; Les Grenadiers a pied; Les Grenadiers Hollandais; Les Marins; Les Vétérans; Les Gendarmerie d'élite; Les Grenadiers a cheval; Les Dragons; Les Chasseurs a cheval; Les Mameloucks; Les Lanciers Polonais; Les Lanciers rouges; L'Artillerie a pied; L'Artillerie a cheval; Les Sapeurs du génie; Le Train d'artillerie; La Garde. The coloured plates are the result of using several metal line blocks, each for adding a different colour, a complicated and delicate process, now obsolete, which was invented in the early 1850's by Firmin Gillot.
