Important and lengthy Douglass letter in which he denies the reported statement of Cook that he had promised to join John Brown in Harper's Ferry. He does speak of Brown and his followers as heroes but says that it was highly unlikely that their attack on the U.S. Armory would have been successful. The letter is printed on the front page under the headline "John Brown's Invasion: Arrest of Judgment Denied. Brown to be Hung December 2nd." Also printed, transcript of an interview with Copeland, "Copeland's Confession", "The Trial of Cap. Cook" and "The Arrest of Cook". and articles "The Young Man Coppic" and "Case of Hazlitt--False Swearing"--all related to Brown's insurrection. Near Fine.
