This work concerns a first edition annotated by Paquot, based on the 1594-edition which was on itself a revised and enlarged edition of the very first edition of 1570: "De picturis et imaginibus sacris liber unus, tractans de vitandis circa eas abusibus et de earundem significationibus". In this work Molanus deals with the proper content of religious images, based on the decrees of the Council of Trent (1563).
