HURLEY, FRANK - Hurley at War The Photography and Diaries of Frank Hurley in Two World Wars

Title: Hurley at War The Photography and Diaries of Frank Hurley in Two World Wars
Description: The Fairfax Library in association with Daniel O'Keefe, Sydney NSW, Australia, 1986. Large square quarto; hardcover; 160 pp, mostly black and white illustrations, a few in colour. Light toning and spotting to text block edges, a little scraping to boards near spine; very good to near fine in somewhat worn dustwrapper with wear particularly to head and tail of spine panel, some light scratches and markings on rear panel (now professionally protected by superior non-adhesive polypropylene film and white paper backing). Hurley's major war photographs were taken at the Third Battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, in 1917. His stark images vividly capture the appalling conditions, the waste of life and the sense of doom and destruction. He also photographed the Australian Light Horse in Palestine the following year and more than twenty years later followed the North African campaigns of Sidi Barrani, Bardia, Tobruk and El Alamein with his camera.
