LAWSON, HENRY - Poetical Works - Three Volumes, signed

Title: Poetical Works - Three Volumes, signed
Description: Angus & Robertson (Aust.) Pty. Ltd., Sydney NSW, 1925. First edition: three volumes, octavo; hardcover, with gilt spine-titling; 541pp. [177pp. + 183pp. + 181pp.], 3 full-colour frontispieces and decorated contents pages. Moderate wear; previous owner's ink inscription to the half-title of Volume One; bumped corners and slight fraying to spine extremities; a few minor scrapes to the rear panel of Volume One; offset to the endpapers; text block edges dusted and spotted. Lacking dustwrappers. Very good. Tipped in: an autograph sheet signed by the poet and dated, in another hand, September 1922, to the front pastedown of Volume One. The first edition collecting of all of Henry Lawson's poetry in three handsome volumes. "To say that Henry Lawson has become a classic is to miss the real meaning of the man. The true student can never ignore his work, but his appeal is infinitely wider. With every decade that appeal must increase; for, reading Lawson, our children's children will hear the living voice of those who laid the foundations of all they prize and love ... This edition of his poems brings them within easy reach of every Australian reader; and I think the man who has gone from us could seek no fairer memorial in the hearts of his people than the knowledge that his words are being read and re-read by those who with every reading love him more." - David McKee Wright, from the 1925 Preface.
