Author: MARTELL, LUKE Title: Ecology and Society: An Introduction
Description: University of Massachusetts Press. 1994. (ISBN: 9780870239465). Paperback, 8.9 x 6.1 x 0.8 inches. Good condition, Isbn 0-87023-946-5, 0870239465. Martell introduces and critiques the many connections between society, nature, and science. He has certain biases and states them up front. His interests lie in "radical ecology," which is not to be confused with spiking trees and slashing tires. Martell argues for "structural changes in economic systems, lifestyles . beliefs" and in many of the values we hold dear. Yet, he doesn't automatically accept all the theoretical planks of the present-day green movement. He characterizes green consumerism, for example, as "only an option for the better-off." Ecology and Society may be a bit too dry for a lay audience, but there is much here to agree and disagree with and to further debate. Used: Acceptable.
