Author: BANKS, JOHN Title: Classic Leylands: V. 1 (Super Prestige)
Description: green, Venture Publications Ltd. 2001. (ISBN: 9781898432340). Paperback, 16.8 x 1.2 x 23.8 cm. Condition good, clean. The first in a new, enlarged series from Venture, based on the successful Prestige Series. This book is twice the size (though not twice the price) and features photographs from the famous G H F Atkins and Senior Transport Archive collections as well as contributions from smaller but no less valuable sources. This volume examines "classic" Leylands up to the suppression of traditional, front-engined buses. It looks at the remarkable Leyland range from the Lion, a masterpiece in its own right, the later G J Rackham designs, and the models based on his designs which found great success all over the world in the 1930s. Coverage stops with the first unfrozen buses of the wartime years, and the story will be picked up in a subsequent volume. Venture's regular transport writer John Banks has provided the introductory text and captions and no enthusiast for Leyland's products of the classic period will want to be without this sparklingly illustrated addition to the marque's literature. Good.
