Title: Jack the Ripper: "Light Hearted Friend"
Description: cream black and red text a5 garage W, Gemini Press. 1996. (ISBN: 9780962719561). Paperback, 14 x 1.9 x 21 cm. Condition clean, slight corner crease. ref ZKVQ A pretty complete circumstantial case. Jack the Ripper is about a lot more than anagrams, the reason why the Dean of Ripperologists, Colin Wilson, graced the book with an Introduction. He described it as having one of the best descriptions of the times and the murders on the market. He also identified it as about the only book on the subject which demonstrates a suspect with a state of mind consistent with the ferocity of the crimes. Harper's Magazine also felt it was worthy of being featured. In fact, the anagrams, except for identifying a state of mind, don't prove anything "forensically." But (for example) is it purely coincidental that the anagram derived from "Jabberwocky" is in total agreement with how many respected analysts have interpreted the illustration Carroll chose to accompany the "nonsense" poem -- as an attack against the mother-figure, and with a sword yet? The goal of the book was to introduce an all-new suspect; it does so with what for many is a quite convincing circumstantial case which addresses motive, knowledge, and opportunity. I hope others with easier access to source material will add their own researched conclusions to complete the proof. Used: Acceptable.
