Geeraert (Brussels): full calf, spine blindstamped, with ribbons and title-label; covers decorated with blindstamped ornaments around the borders; marbled edges; marbled endpapers (some small defects:small tears in first hinge, 1 corner sl. damaged, some rubbings). lx,(viii),408 pp.. Title printed in red and black. Nice interior condition, only the lower corner of the margin of p. 69-70 damaged. Printed on thin paper. - Originally published in Latin at Venice 1645 under pseudonym of Lucius Cornelius Europaeus. - This is the second edition of the French translation with remarks by Pierre Restaut (the first appeared 1721). The text is also attributed to the Italian jesuit Jules (Giulio) Clment (Clemente) Scotti, expelled from the Jesuit order after the publication of this vehement attack of the Jesuits entitled "La monarchie des solipses": the monarchy of the egoists.
