(gilt faded, spines and covers rubbed in places; tops of 4 spines sl. dam.; small tear in 3 hinges). Printed in 2 columns. With 278 (of 279) engraved plates, numbered 1-314. Including 36 folding plates with double numbers and 9 folding maps coloured in outline (Spain, America (2), Asia, Africa, England, etc.). - In vol. 8 missing plate no. 6 of the 12 numbered plates with annotated music. - Plates age-toned and with brown spots; short margins. - Dealing with the latest discoveries and progres in mechanics, medecine, electricity, etc.: farm machinery, diving bells, mills, pumps, microscopes, lighthouse, steam-engines, machines for fabrication of paper, etc. - On the whole a good set, carefully collated (only 1 plate missing), convent-stamps and numbers on titles. .
