Title: Power of Attorney for John Trevor of H.M.S. Defiance, to "my true and lawful wife Mary Trevor."
Description: 13th May 1740. Bifolium, printed and ms to first page only, 320 x 195 mm. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. A standard naval document to allow dependants to draw pay and prize money and engage in business on the officer's behalf. The Defiance was an old ship, built in 1675, rebuilt in 1695 and again in 1707 as a 66 gun third-rate, being reduced to a 4th rate in 1716> John Trevor became Master in 1739> the ship was hulked in 1745 and broken up in 1749.
