Very good condition overall.; The Meiyintang collection represents one of the finest private collections of Chinese ceramics ever assembled.; "The first volume of this catalogue contains mainly earthenwares and stonewares from the Neolithic period to the Song dynasty (AD 960-1279), the second porcelains from the Yuan (AD1279-1368) to the Qing dynasty. Although the two volumes belong together, they are conceived as individual books, each with its own working bibliography. Volume One contains small maps of China, highlighting the most important, if not the only, regions of ceramic manufacture in different periods; these were not necessary in Volume Two, where most pieces come from kiln centre, Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province. In Volume One attributions to the places of manufacture are given as precisely as possible, distinctions being made between a definitely identified kiln, a province, and a more general area of manufacture. The reference illustrations in Volume One show objects in other materials, also from the Meiyintang collection. In Volume Two all reign marks not illustrated in colour are included in an appendix; only those distinct enough for clear reproduction are repeated under the catalogue entry itself." excerpt from the Volume 1 introduction by Regina Krahl.; Volume Three of the collection catalogue, consisting of two books in a slip case, discusses and illustrates nearly 600 Chinese ceramics from the Neolithic period to the Yuan (1279-1368), many of which are today on display in the Rietberg Museum, Zurich. Volume Four, also consisting of two books in a slip case, covers China's porcelain production from the Yuan to the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) with some 250 entries. This collection is now dispersed.
