The remaining interior is in very good condition.; "Ever since the Ming dynasty, the Yixing county of Jiangsu province has been well-known for producing teapots of sandy quality, in colours of purple, yellow, red, green and black, with or without carved or painted decorations. These vessels are often called Yixing teapots or ishu (purple clay) teapots. Most of them bear the signature or the seal mark of the potter, which is another characteristic. It is believed that Yixing teapots can retain the colour, flavour and aroma of tea for a longer period of time than any other kinds of teapot and therefore, they are much sought after by tea connoisseurs. The travelling exhibition of Yixing wares from the K.S. Lo Collection to four museums in North America, namely the Phoenix Art Museum of Arizona, the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto from May 1990 to January 1992 was a great success. The exhibition was very well received and it had successfully introduced to the western world the art of pottery making in Yixing. We are pleased to present the same exhibition to museums in the United Kingdom, Europe and Southeast Asia, commencing in the fall of 1994. The exhibition features a selection of 118 pieces of Yixing wares from the K.S. Lo Collection housed in the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware, which includes teapots, tea cups, figurines and objects for the scholar's studio dated from late Ming dynasty to the present day. We are pleased to share with art lovers and tea connoisseurs abroad what Dr Lo shared with the public in Hong Kong when he made his generous donation to the Urban Council in 1981." excerpt from the preface by Gerard C. C. Tsang, Chief Curator, Hong Kong Museum of Art. Very Good/No Jacket.
