Book, English text.; Paperback.; 18.5 x 24 cm.; 0.3 Kg.; Introductory text, followed by list of the 152 exhibited works and images of the each of the works.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior and interior.; Catalogue from an Exhibition of National Art Treasures of Korea lent by the government of the republic of Korea held at the Victoria and Albert Museum, from 23 March to 7 May, 1961, which included gold crown and ornaments, gold and gilt bronze statues, decorated tiles and paving bricks, pottery and porcelain, and paintings.; "The Exhibition of National Art Treasures of Kore is a unique event. Not only does it comprise works which form part of the heritage of the Korean nation and cannot be matched by examples in public or private collections elsewhere, but it is the first exhibition of Korean art ever to be held in England. Although of great artistic and cultural importance, the arts of Korea have been largely neglected by students in this country: they are less familiar than those of China and Japan, being poorly represented in our national collections, nor has any illustrated publication been readily available to demonstrate their quality and significance. This short introduction is aimed to serve as a background and to help visitors to place in perspective the 152 exhibits of gold, bronze, pottery and painting of various periods which are now assembled, thanks to the generosity of the Government of the republic of Korea. Of these exhibits, 101 were among those which toured museums and art galleries in America from 1957 to 1959, and 51 are new items which have never before left Korea." excerpt from the introduction by G. St. G. M. Gompertz. Good/No Jacket.
