Sitwell's classic study was first published as three separate volumes of which the present work forms the second, succeeding 'The Visit of the Gypsies' (1929) and preceding 'The Fair-Haired Victory' (1930). The three works were combined without change of text in a one-volume edition in the US (Houghton Mifflin, 1929) and the UK (Duckworth, 1938). UNCOMMON IN THIS CONDITION. Fifoot, SA17 (recording all three volumes of the separately published edition).
