Title: John Keble's Parishes. A History of Hursley and Otterbourne. HER SOLE TOPOGRAPHICAL WORK
Description: Macmillan,, 1899. 8vo., with a portrait frontispiece in photogravure, 11 plates (one a portrait in photogravure) and a map coloured in outline, endpapers browned; original black buckram, gilt back, uncut, corners lightly bruised, hinges weak (but binding entirely sound), a good, clean copy of a very scarce work. With 4pp catalogue of Macmillan's 'Uniform Edition' of the author's novels and tales (this was her sole excursus into topographical history) at end, and the blind trade stamp of W.H. Smith, Strand, on rear free endpaper. This fine local history, first published in the preceding year, draws on Marsh's 'Memoranda of the Parishes of Hursley and North Baddesley' (1808) and Duthy's 'Sketches of Hampshire' (1839) to provide an account of its localities more detailed than either of its forbears.
