Description: Jonathan Cape,, [1951-56]. 3 vols., 8vo., First Edition, with 3 frontispieces, decorative titles, numerous illustrations in the text and coloured pictorial endpapers, original cloth (red/green/blue respectively), yellow cloth backs lettered in gilt, coloured tops, a near fine set in unclipped dustwrapper, the wrappers minimally chafed at heads and tails of backstrips. Beverley Nichols' second and best-known trilogy forms a delightful chronicle of the enhancement of his Georgian manor house and gardens at Ashtead in Surrey. It comprises 'Merry Hall' (1951), 'Laughter on the Stairs (1953) and 'Sunlight on the Lawn' (1956). An abridged version of the trilogy was issued in a single volume as 'The Gift of a Home' in 1972. VERY SCARCE AS A SET IN THIS CONDITION.
