Published in the same month as the first edition. EXTREMELY SCARCE WITH THE DUSTWRAPPER IN THIS CONDITION. 'A clear, intense picture of life in Occupied France, as seen first by an escaper and then by an SOE organiser' (Foot). The book 'gives a matchless account of how to live hour by hour, never knowing whether you will see the next through: De Gaulle told him [the auhor] in a private interview that this is the best account of life in the maquis, though he could not say so in public' (ODNB).
