Description: Ignace Sofietti, Turin,, 1803. 8vo., text in French, with engraved title-vignettes (first and second works), woodcut tables and diagrams in the text (first work), and 4 fine folding engraved plates of geometrical figures (second work); attractively bound in nineteenth century tan half roan, brown lightly marbled boards, back with with flat gilt bands, second compartment framed and lettered in gilt, red sprinkled edges, a remarkably well-preserved, bright, crisp, clean, near fine copy. THIS COPY WAS FORMERLY IN THE LIBRARY OF THE MARQUIS DE MONTCALM-GOZON AND BEARS HIS HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON TITLES OF FIRST TWO WORKS. The collection comprises: Elemens de d'Arithmetique (first edition, 1803); Elemens de Geometrie (fifth edition, 1803); Lettre sur l'Eqilibre de l'Europe (1805); Seconde Lettre sur l'Eqilibre de l'Europe (n.d.); Troisieme Lettre sur l'Eqilibre de l'Europe (n.d.). The inscription is possibly that of Marquis Louis Hippolyte de Montcalm-Gozon (1775-1857), grandson of Louis-Joseph Montcalm-Gozon (1712-1759), French General commanding at Wolfe's well-known victory at the Siege of Quebec. A REMARKABLY CRISP, VIRTUALLY UNREAD COPY WITH INTERESTING PROVENANCE.
