Title: Everyman's Encyclopaedia. New and Revised Edition. [Second Edition; First Edition in larger format]. FIRST LARGE FORMAT EDITION IN ORIGINAL DISPLAY CASE
Description: Warne,, [1931-1932]. 13 vols., 8vo., First Edition thus, titles in red and black, with numerous illustrations throughout, Atlas with numerous coloured plates and maps; original plum cloth, upper boards blocked in blind, gilt backs, red sprinkled edges, plain endpapers, backstrips lightly sunned, a few backstrip mildly age-soiled else a very good, bright, clean set in the original Arts & Crafts-style wooden display case. The set comprises the Encyclopaedia (12v) and World Atlas (1v). Everyman's Encyclopaedia was first published edited by Andrew Boyle in 1913; Ridgway's Preface to the present edition details the considerable changes and expansion made necessary by the Great War, the Russian Revolution and other world events. Following the adoption of the larger format, the Encyclopaedia was dropped from the EL numbering system. It is uncertain how many sets were sold with the display case, but it cannot have been many; this is the second such we have seen in over thirty years. EXTREMELY SCARCE; COMPLETE SETS WITH THE CASE ARE SELDOM OFFERED FOR SALE. See Seymour, pp.143-145.
