[IMAGE SHOWS VOLUME BEFORE RESTORATION.] THIS COPY WAS FORMERLY IN THE LIBRARY OF EYRE CROWE, BEARS HIS HOLOGRAPH SIGNATURE DATED 1870 ON TITLE OF FIRST WORK, EXTENSIVE ANNOTATIONS IN HIS HAND ON REAR FREE ENDPAPER RECTO, AND WAS BOUND PROBABLY TO HIS COMMISSION. Eyre Crowe (1824-1910), painter, was a pupil of William Darley and later of Paul Delaroche in Paris. Between 1852-53 he travelled throughout the USA as amanuensis to Thackeray, publishing 'With Thackeray in America' (1893) and 'Thackeray's Haunts and Homes' (1897). He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1846 and was elected Associate in 1876. VERY SCARCE.
