Description: Macmillan,, 1927-45. 6 vols., 8vo., Third Edition, with fine portrait frontispiece in photogravure (original tissue guard present), 5 coloured frontispieces, 20 coloured plates, 88 plates in monochrome and very numerous musical notations in the text; original navy blue diced cloth, gilt backs, gilt tops, one upper board lightly chafed at lower fore-edge else a near fine extended set. With the fine armorial bookplate of The Institute of Accountants & Actuaries in Glasgow on front paste-downs, and neat blank labels on front free endpapers. The five volumes of the third edition were published 1927-1928. The Supplementary Volume was first issued with the fourth edition of 1940 and reissued (as here) in 1945. The set comprises Vol. I (A-C), 1927; Vol. II (D-J), 1927; Vol. III (K - O), 1927; Vol. IV (P to Sonatina), 1928; Vol. V (Song - Z), 1928; Supplementary Volume, 1945. EXTENDED SETS IN THIS CONDITION ARE SCARCE.
