Agnes Campbell (1637 to 1716) was a highly significant figure in the history of both printing and women's emancipation in Scotland. After the death of her printer husband she built up their business to be the largest printer in Scotland. On remarrying she successfully petitioned Parliament to allow her business to remain under her control rather than her husband's. She was Defoe's Scottish printer, and was appointed as the printer to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in her own right in 1712.
