HARRIS NEIL, MARION - A Calendar of Dinners, with 615 Recipes; Including the Story of Crisco

Title: A Calendar of Dinners, with 615 Recipes; Including the Story of Crisco
Description: Cincinnati, OH: The Proctor & Gamble Co, 1930. 15th Edition. Hardcover. This book is in Very Good condition and was possibly issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have some bumping, rubbing and wear to the spine ends and corners. The gilt lettering on the front cover had faded and dulled some. There is a square pictorial pastedown on the front cover that is in generally clean condition, but does have some spots of rubbing and a couple of edge nicks and chips. The text pages are clean and bright. This cook book was compiled as an accompaniment to the newly created vegetable fat solid: Crisco. The recipies in this book (nearly all of them) contain Crisco - and the introductory pages include how Crisco was invented and how it was the healthiest fat for people to eat (instead of Butter or Lard). ) Quite the marketing tool). "In 1911, Crisco – the first-ever shortening made entirely of vegetable oil – was born. Clad in pristine white-paper overwrap, Crisco was seen as a more “pure” and economical alternative to animal fat and butter. Soon after our first print and radio ads debuted, products flew off of the shelves. The first Crisco cookbook taught Americans all of the innovative ways Crisco could be used – from baking to frying. And so, a cooking revolution was born. " (from the Crisco history website).. Very Good .
