The book covers have edge wear, rubbing and small chips to the edges and corners. The text pages are generally clean, though noticeably toned and darkened due to the acid content of the pages. The front endpaper has a crack by the spine joint that travels upwards nearly 2/3rds of the page. There is a full color frontispiece. The contents include: The Story of a Hoe-Cake, Charley's Opinion of the Baby, Hans and Fritz, Two Little Kittens, The Snipe, Paul and the Goblin, How a Thistle Saved a Nation, The Tapir, The Horse, Why Gran'mammy didn't like Pound Cake, and much more. "M. A. Donohue & Co. Based in Chicago, Illinois was established in 1861, initially known as Cox and Donohue, Bookbinders. The publisher's original location was 407-429 Dearborn St. In Chicago's South Loop. The company was known for inexpensive editions of popular works of fiction. It focused on publishing sets and series of books (i. E. "libraries." ) Around 1880, the name of the company was changed to Donohue & Henneberry, and in 1901 to M. A. Donohue & Company.
