Duotone illustrations and black and white illust.; First Appearance - This short novel was originally published in three parts in Liberty Magazine, in the April 8th, April 15th, and April 22nd issues. These three issues are in Good condition, and all have illustrations in the story by James Montgomery Flagg. The spine ends, corners and edges of the magazine covers have bumping, rubbing, wear, and small nicks and tears. There are several edge chips to the covers as well, along with noticeable toning to the spine joints and edges. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though noticeably toned throughout, and fragile. There are tears to page edges (not necessarily to the story pages). The April 8th issue has curving / turning to the spine (ie: was stored badly. Interestingly, the novel (or novelette) was not published in any other form until 1951, when a paperback edition was published. A hardback edition wasn't issued until 1988. There were two movies made of the story - the first in 1934, directed by Phil Rosen. The second film was in 1952 and directed by George Blair.. Good .
