The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. There is a light backwards slant to spine of book. This is an early edition, but not a First Edition (Harper & Bros. Switched to Harper & Row in 1962 and this edition states Harper & Row). The text pages are clean and bright. There is one small spot of darkening to rear endpaper. Illustrations alternate between full color and black and white. Dust jacket has some light edge wear, rubbing and bumping along with several edge tears, the most noticeable is an inch long (plus a smidge) tear to top spine end of dust jacket which travels down front spine joint. There is an little nick to bottom spine end of dust jacket also. The front cover of of the dust jacket has the Harper Blue Ribbon book seal . The dust jacket has a price of One dollar and fifty cents. "Cheerful was a city mouse, raised in a church. His father came from a long line of sober black-whiskered churchmice, who made themselves useful by gathering rice scattered at weddings, or by picking up crumbs after church-ladies' cake sales and such delicious crumbs, too!" The illustrations throughout the book are exquisitely detailed and at the same time, easily accessible to children and adults, full of whimsy and humor.. Very Good+ in Very Good- dust jacket .
