YELVERTON, THERESE (VISCOUNTESS AVONMORE) - Zanita a Tale of the Yo-Semite

Title: Zanita a Tale of the Yo-Semite
Description: New York: Hurd and Houghton, 1872. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. This book is in Good only condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The spine ends, corners and edges of the book covers have rubbing, bumping, fraying and chips missing. The covers have noticeable spots of ground-in dirt and generalized rubbing. The lettering on the spine has started to rub. The front inner hinge has cracked. The text pages are generally clean, but the book could use a good restitching as sections are loose. The rear endpaper is missing. The first twenty pages or so have spots of foxing. "Afterwards, she (Yelverton) led an itinerant life and supported herself by writing about her travels. Francis Farquhar wrote that she "spent the summer of 1870 in Yosemite, where she attached herself to the Hutchings family and made eyes at John Muir. He escaped to the woods, but not before she had noted enough of his conversation and his ways of life to make him over into Kenmuir, the hero of her novel." (Wikipedia). Good .
