There is a full color frontispiece by Thomas Fogarty. "In 1891 White graduated from Central High School in Grand Rapids. He continued his naturalist studies in the area, collecting bird skins, stuffing specimens, and writing articles, including a pamphlet on the birds of Mackinac Island that the Ornithologists' Union published. He would later buy a beach near Santa Barbara, California to turn it into a preserve, calling it “Sandyland”. He graduated from the University of Michigan, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1895 with a degree in Philosophy. He had an impressionable stint working as a lumberjack among the White Pines of Michigan in 1901, writing for a few hours every day in the early morning.". Very Good+ .
