He would later buy a beach near Santa Barbara, California to turn it into a preserve, calling it “Sandyland”. He graduated from the University of Michigan, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1895 with a degree in Philosophy. He had an impressionable stint working as a lumberjack among the White Pines of Michigan in 1901, writing for a few hours every day in the early morning.". Very Good+ .
