The rear cover of the book has some discoloration to the top third of the panel. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's set of initials on the front endpaper in blue ink. The text includes 8 black and white illustrated plates plus a black and white frontispiece, all by Fred Pegram. Several of the illustrated plates have toning to the edges. A Murder mystery, with a bit of golfing thrown in for good measure. The front cover illustration and one of the plates feature the fairly new game. "The two men stood upon the top of a bank bordering the rough road which led to the sea. They were listening to the lark, which had risen fluttering from their feet a moment or so ago, and was circling now above their heads. Mannering, with a quiet smile, pointed upwards." "Edward Phillips Oppenheim (22 October 1866 – 3 February 1946) was an English novelist, in his lifetime a major and successful writer of genre fiction including thrillers." "Oppenheim's literary success enabled him to buy a villa in France and a yacht, then a house in Guernsey, though he lost access to this during the Second World War. Afterwards he regained the house, le Vanquiédor in St. Peter Port, and he died there on 3 February 1946.". Very Good+ .
