Title: Poems and Letters in Two Volumes
Description: Cambridge, MA, Harvard University Press, 1963 and 1965. Hardcover.12mo,,Uniformly bound in red cloth with gilt spine lettering,Sidonius or, to give him his full name, Gaius Sollius Apollinaris Sidnonius (c. AD 430-480), was a notable Gallo-Roman poet and bishop of Augustonemetum (Clermont-Ferrand) in France. He was one of the last major figures of classical culture. His poems (only 24 of them survive) were addressed to friends and are replete with mythological allusions and show great technical skill if limited originality. This is a title in the Loeb Classical Library, the two volumes being numbered 296 and 420. The text is in both the original Latin and its English translation. Former owner's name in each, a bit of bumping, else unmarked and in near fine condition. No dust wrappers.
