Pages foxed. l Bijleveld was a son of the Leiden physician Dr. Casparus Bijleveld and Susanna Maria van Heck. After his law studies, he established himself as a lawyer in Leiden. Among other things, he acted as a lawyer before the 'Hof of Holland', the 'Hoge Raad'. In 1785 he was Raadspensionaris of Purmerend and from 1786 to 1787 he held the same position in Gorinchem. In 1796 he was the secretary of the Eerste Nationale Vergadering. In 1797 he was a representative of the Tweede Nationale Vergadering. In 1798 he was arrested and imprisoned for six months, along with 28 like-minded federalists. In the years that followed, he continued his judicial career. Bijleveld married Elisabeth Maria van Swieten on September 18, 1781. Eleven children were born from this marriage, of which six died at a young age. His son Daniel Jan was president of the district court of The Hague. (Catawiki).
