The author is one of many pseudonyms of Trevor Dudley-Smith (1920-1995) a prolific award winning crime and thriller writer who had many works made into films. In this book, set in the aftermath of World War II, Nikolas II King of Slavakia is in exile, debauched, promiscuous and bitter but when his country wants him back he is willing but there are pressures and decisions that he must make.
