The book is the first of a new series, following the death of Archbishop Temple which brought to an end the series of Lent books. Dr. Wand summarises the aim of this book as 'The first four chapters seek to meet the difficulties encountered by the rising generation in giving whole-hearted allegiance to God, the personal Creator and Sustainer of the universe. The last four endeavour to show what is implied in an acceptance of the Christian moral standard and to prove that the acceptance of such a standard, far from dwarfing and maiming life, actually ensures that it will be lived at its fullest.
